Process

Challenges:

  • Balancing multiple responsibilities, such as being the captain of the baseball team and working on the musical
  • Limited time for collaboration with the cast and teaching the songs
  • Identifying the right opportunities for songs within the script to avoid redundancy and maintain an engaging storyline

Solutions:

  • Worked closely with the writers to identify key opportunities for songs that complemented the story and emotions
  • Used iconic '80s synths like the DX7 and Juno for an authentic synth-pop sound
  • Recorded demos in a home studio after baseball practice and shared them with the directors and cast for learning and feedback

Outcome

  • Successful performances with standing room only at Brophy's Black Box Theatre
  • Overwhelmingly positive feedback from the audience
  • Songs are still remembered and enjoyed by the audience members six years later
